Indoor Unit: The Cool Comfort Provider

The indoor unit is the heart of your air conditioning system, responsible for distributing cool air throughout your living space. The process begins as the unit draws in warm room air through its front panel grille. As air passes through, it's cleaned by one or more filters, removing dust, allergens, and other particles.

The cleaned air then passes over the evaporator coil, which contains cold refrigerant. Heat from the air is absorbed by the refrigerant, cooling the air. A blower fan pushes the now-cooled air back into your room through adjustable louvers.

As the air is cooled, moisture in the air condenses on the coil and is drained away, reducing humidity. Built-in sensors continuously monitor room temperature, adjusting operation to maintain your desired setting. Modern units feature user-friendly interfaces for easy temperature and fan speed adjustments.

Advanced models use motorised vanes to distribute air evenly, eliminating hot spots. The indoor unit works in tandem with the outdoor unit, creating a complete cooling cycle that ensures your comfort in even the hottest weather.

Outdoor Unit: The Cooling Powerhouse

The outdoor unit is the unsung hero of your air conditioning system, working hard to release heat and maintain the cooling cycle. The heart of the outdoor unit is the compressor, which pressurises the refrigerant, raising its temperature and preparing it for the cooling process.

Hot, high-pressure refrigerant from the compressor flows through the condenser coil, where heat is released into the outside air. A large fan draws air across the condenser coil, aiding in heat dissipation and maintaining efficient operation.

As refrigerant exits the condenser, it passes through an expansion valve, which reduces its pressure and temperature, preparing it to absorb heat again in the indoor unit. Insulated copper tubing connects the outdoor and indoor units, allowing refrigerant to circulate and transfer heat.

The control board acts as the electronic brain, coordinating the operation of all components to ensure they work together efficiently. A durable casing protects internal components from weather, debris, and potential damage. Modern units incorporate vibration dampeners and specially designed fan blades to minimize operational noise.

The outdoor unit's efficient heat release is crucial for maintaining the cooling cycle. Its robust design allows it to operate reliably in various weather conditions, ensuring your indoor comfort year-round.

Air Conditioning Running Costs

How Much to Run?

Understand the factors that influence your air conditioning system's energy consumption and operating expenses.

Running Costs: Maximum Efficiency and Savings

Managing the running costs of your air conditioning system is crucial for long-term savings and environmental responsibility. Look for units with high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings. Higher SEER numbers indicate greater efficiency and lower operating costs.

An appropriately sized unit for your space prevents energy waste from over-cycling or inadequate cooling. Professional assessment ensures optimal sizing. Regular maintenance, including scheduled cleaning and servicing, keeps your system running at peak efficiency, preventing energy waste and extending equipment life.

Programmable and smart thermostats allow for automated temperature adjustments, optimising comfort and energy use based on your schedule. Zoning systems allow you to cool only occupied areas, reducing energy waste in unused spaces. Proper home insulation and sealing prevent cool air loss, reducing the workload on your AC system.

Ceiling and portable fans can improve air circulation, allowing you to set the thermostat a few degrees higher without sacrificing comfort. If your utility offers time-of-use rates, running your AC during off-peak hours can lead to significant savings. Using blinds, curtains, or exterior shading can reduce heat gain, lessening the cooling load on your system.

AC units with variable speed compressors can adjust their output to match cooling needs, improving efficiency and comfort. Clean filters ensure smooth airflow, preventing your system from working harder than necessary. Professional energy audits can identify areas of improvement in your home's overall energy efficiency, often leading to AC cost savings.

By implementing these strategies and choosing an efficient system, you can significantly reduce your air conditioning running costs while maintaining optimal comfort in your home.

Yes all of the air conditioning systems we install provide heat as well as as cooled and conditioned air. They are super efficient too with A++ ratings. Perfect for those areas that are too hot to bare in the summer yet excessively cold in the winter months.

.

Basically, refrigerant is circulated between an indoor and outdoor unit extracting heat from inside to outside in the summer. The system can also be reversed so that in winter you can use your indoor unit to heat your home too. It’s basically like a big fridge; the evaporator, compressor and condenser components inside the units work together to change the refrigerant from gas to liquid and back again.

The summer months are becoming warmer and when the heat arrives, it really arrives in today's climate. Air conditioning provides many health benefits too. There’s no time like the present to treat your home to cool and clean air.

.

Many people are now turning to multi split system air conditioning units for heat and cooling. Because they transfer heat rather than create heat. A modern air conditioning system can provide 3+kW of heating performance for every 1kW used to run the system making them ultra efficient for heating. Prices start from £1,795.
